DeVriendt

Range:

Distance

Origins:

Galaxy Devriendts, Oscar Devriendt via Campbell Strange and Ray Roemmich

General Usage:

A good general purpose line particularly well suited to the longer, tougher races when crossed to a Janssen.

Characteristics:

Handle reasonably well, though they do not fight when their beak is pulled (a common grading practice in California). Wings are loose structured. The tail/back connection is often flexible though not what is commonly referred to as "weak backed". They tend to be medium to medium plus in size. Usually well muscled.

We first became aware of the Devriendts in the late seventies when reading of the success of the Galaxy Loft of Boccone and Brockmann. Later the favorable reviews continued with the records of the Devriendts of Campbell Strange.

In 1993 we began acquiring our Devriendts. We were very careful to make sure our foundation animals had not been crossed along the way and were as close as possible to the original Galaxy Devriendts. Our first pair was obtained from Raymond Tonai who had been a friend of Boccone and Brockmann and had obtained key birds directly from Galaxy Loft. We next added several key breeders that were bred by Campbell Strange. We were fortunate in 1994 to come across "1771" who was an inbred cock of the mother of "Lodi". The final additons were made in 1995 when we purchased the entire loft of Ray Roemmich (the breeder of "Lodi") including a son and daughter of "Lodi".
