Van Loon

Louis Van Loon

Van Loon Blend

Super 73

De Marco

Range:

Middle Distance

Origins:

Currently we maintain 4 Van Loon sub-families. They include the family obtained directly from Louis Van Loon,  a blended family of various Van Loon origins (Campbell Strange, Thei Bours, Planet Brothers, Herman Beverdam, and Louis Van Loon), the "Super 73’s” (Campbell Strange) and the “De Marco’s” (G. Peters via Hapyco Loft). While “De Marco” was a son of “Super 73”, we have found his offspring to be so outstanding, that we have branched the line.

General Usage:

A fast line that flies with a great deal of heart. They are well suited to the fast middle distance races and futurities. They cross very well with Janssens.

Characteristics:

Great variation in handling characteristics. Some of the best handling birds in the loft are down from the Peters birds. There are also many in the loft who do not handle well, but have flown very well. This is a line where you better rely on the basket and not try to pre-judge them in the hand. I have been surprised many times. Medium size.

From my point of view, the Van Loons (and particularly the Super 73's) have dominated many of the major money races in the States for the past few years.

The record of "Super 73" has been truly phenomenal. Everywhere we have turned, we have found descendants of this great cock winning races. Since "Super 73" is a Van Loon based pigeon with 1/4 Janssen and 1/4 Meuleman, we have chosen to maintain the “Super 73”  and “De Marco” families separate from the straight Van Loons. Like our Janssen breeding program, we do this to preserve the separate gene pools so that we can move quickly to concentrate genes if one or the other of these two families proves to race better. Our average customer will simply consider them all as Van Loons.
